Love this sweet little block! This could be anything - a mug rug, pot holder, zipper bag. Or use it as a block in a quilt or table topper.

December is always a busy month for me but I’m not able to post very many pictures because most of what I’ve been working on are Christmas gifts. So here’s just two small corners of a quilt I’m working on today. I love it when customers let me quilt whatever I want! 😊
This would make a nice wall hanging for my sewing room. How about you?

Quilting doesn’t have to be complicated or done on a longarm machine. Using your walking foot on your domestic machine you can produce grid work that’s easy and fast, especially when you use your piecing or your fabrics for your guidelines. I’m using the “M’s” on this Mickey Mouse fabric to guide my stitching.
Quilts can be fun as well as functional. I just finished quilting this Chicken quilt for a customer. I used a Chicken pantograph for the inside (chicken blocks) and did several freehand border designs to frame it.
A basic log cabin block with a few HST’s thrown in for good measure gives you this fun Chicken block. Great for pot holders, placemats, bags, or whole quilts.
Using every last scrap is not only good for your wallet but good for the planet 🌎

If you’re like me you probably have lots of orphan blocks from block swaps. Lots of blocks but not enough to make a whole quilt, right? Think again! With this layout you can “stretch” the size of your quilt by adding solid (or print) squares to the center of your quilt with your blocks in opposite corners. That may not be what the designer had in mind when she created this quilt pattern but I see possibilities!

Have you heard of temperature quilts? I just finished quilting this one for a friend who lives in Fayetteville, NC. The quilt contains 365 blocks - one for every day of the year and each block has two fabrics representing the high and low temperature of the day. It’s such a fun and colorful quilt!
This is just a small section of the 2018 temperature quilt which shows two colors for each day representing the high and low temperature of every day.

Quilts don’t always have to be small intricate pieces and blocks. This is a beautiful example of using color and fabric to create the quilt. Of course the quilted stitching finishes it off to be a beautiful ocean scene. Who wouldn’t want to sleep under this quilt?
What a beautiful quilt from Layna! She designed this to look like an ocean scene. Can you see how the colors transition from the sky, to the ocean, to the sandy beach? Beautiful work Layna!

Here’s a quick easy project for a bag that every quilter can use!
How about this cool idea to take to retreats or workshops!! Donna Burke shared this last weekend at the McPherson workshop and I thought it was so cool. I’ll be making this soon!!
She started with 2 placemats, already quilted. Bought a matching napkin or 2 to make the pocket and handles. Simple zipper to attach the pocket to the placemat. Wrong sides together create a great bag, (really your choice as binding is already done!) holding a folding cutting mat, rotary cutter and ruler. How brilliant!!!

My favorite charity does it again, this time donating to victims of the Paradise CA Campfire. 💖
With the help of area chapters in California, Quilts for Kids headquarters sent hundreds of quilts to children who lost everything in the devastating Camp Fire forest fire.
Here are a note and a photo from a grateful mom:
Thank you for the quilts for my girls who were affected by the Camp Fire. They received them today from school and they are beautiful! My oldest actually lost hers in the fire so this means a lot. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I made this quilt for a good friend who is being treated for breast cancer. I will forever acknowledge February as my personal Breast Cancer Awareness Month in support of her bravery and courage. Besides, Pink is a very good color for a Valentine!

A friend of mine shared this link with me but I just got around to trying it today. This is my new favorite technique for binding. It works perfectly! Just make sure you cut your 45° on both ends of your strips before piecing. This isn’t clear in the video instructions but you’ll figure it out when you sit down to sew your strips together.
Create a Polished, Professional Finish! Binding is the final step to a finished quilt, and the one that is most likely to be put off. There are many reasons why quilters tend to delay binding, one of which is that it’s easy to produce puckers and unsightly bulges. Fortunately, there are easy ways ...
