Dreaming in Color | American Craft Council

Very excited to be heading to Jackson Hole, Wyoming to be the VIP Liaison for The Jackson Hole Fine Art Fair with over 50 Contemporary Art Dealers from the US and abroad including Imago Gallery, Melissa Morgan Fine Art, Tayloe Piggott Gallery and Deihl Gallery just to name a few. I will be the moderator for a panel discussion and I will co-present the Artist and Sculptor of the Year Awards. I am deeply honored to be co-hosting a special house tour of the home and artist retreat of award winning furniture/interior designer and contemporary art collector Agnes Bourne. Here is a lovely article about the hostess and her house. She is a remarkable woman and we have had fun getting to know one another! https://craftcouncil.org/magazine/article/dreaming-color

Exhibition: Henry Botkin: From Realism to Abstraction | Childs Gallery

Another mystery solved by Art Collector's Athenaeum! We researched an unknown painting in a private collection and was able to attribute the work to Henry Botkin, a notable 20th century painter and cousin of George Gershwin, who helped Gershwin develop his impressive private collection and taught him how to paint! They spent time in a beach cottage in the south in the summer in 1934, where George wrote the opera "Porgy and Bess" and Henry created paintings of the locals that would become the basis for the production design.

Renowned Washington Painter Sam Gilliam Has Joined Pace Gallery, For the First Time He is Represented in New York

I had the pleasure of acquiring a Sam Gilliam painting for a collection where the painting had a conservation issue that Art Collector's Athenaeum conservators could resolve. It went straight to an exhibition after we had remedied the problem that had kept the painting out of circulation. A solid decision to invest in this brilliant artist's work and bring the piece to light with the help of Sande Webster a respected and savvy dealer in African American Art.

OVER THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS, Sam Gilliam has been increasingly recognized as one of the most innovative and groundbreaking painters to emerge in second half of the 20th century. His lyr...

I am back from the Philadelphia Fine Art Fair and I am one happily exhausted curator having given 8 VIP tours of the fair and moderated a terrific panel talk with world renown photo realist painter Yigal Ozeri, contemporary realist sculptor Brian Booth Craig and gallerist Louis Meisel. My voice almost gave out but the energy and vibe of the fair was fantastic!

Art Collector's Athenaeum will be heading north to digitally document works by Winslow Homer. Being from Maine, I have an affinity for Homer's work and studying his paintings of the sea actually generate an auditory memory..I hear the majesty of wave sounds and the lapping of sea water. Great art is that powerful.

A very well attended evening with Baltimore's devoted art community for a Sonya Clark exhibition. Art is where you find it...living artfully is a greatest passion.

Monet resplendent in the garden at Giverny with a happy little dog photo bombing the shots, Renoir smoking like a chimney and painting with arthritic claws for hands, Rodin grinning with joy at the primal process of banging on a rock as chips of marble nestle in his beard and the ever elegant Degas, strolling in Paris at 81 years of age with shoulders back doing the Grande social dance. Art titans revealed as fragile humans in twilight - a must see.

8 years ago, I started my own company consulting and digitizing fine art. Now, my company has matured and so have I! I have curated a private sculpture collection and a foundation collection of African American art that has had four museum exhibitions since its inception. I have also started to curate an exciting new private collection in Los Angeles for a successful entrepreneur. I have facilitated museum exhibitions from Kyoto to New York for my clients. I have placed several pieces of my husband's extraordinary work, which never ceases to inspire me. I have contributed to an artist book on the work of Ludwig Bemelmans that will soon be internationally released by Thames & Hudson Publishing Co. in London. I have developed a significant body of research on a work by John Singer Sargent, which is thrilling. I have also discovered works by James McNeill Whistler, Louis Antoine Barye, Jacques Nam and Henry Botkin that my clients did not know they had! I have also discovered an early portrait of Sophie Delaunay in a private collection. My team has digitized numerous private collections from antique mechanical banks, Roman coins and exquisite fine jewelry to significant works of art. Thanks to the patronage one of my dearest clients, in 2019, I will publish a monograph on a fascinating community of artists, writers and social reformers that formed during the Aesthetic Movement and I will lecture in the spring for Olana Partnership, the home of Frederick Church on that special community. I will do another lecture on the art and culture surrounding a family home, the C. V. Rich Estate that is now The Women's Club of Westchester. In 2020, I will co-curate an exhibtion that I conceived for contemporary painter Freya R Grand in collaboration with The Museum of The Americas in Washington DC and have just returned from a very successful pitch meeting for her with The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum. In the spring of 2019, I will travel to France with the prospect of meeting a very exciting artist looking to exhibit and show more in the U.S. I will also curate three solo shows for a venue in Baltimore. As I age, I see how much I have changed...but I welcome the changes, because of the richness of experience I now have and the marvelous network of friends and collaborative partners that have supported my journey. Thank you to all who have helped, hired and inspired me!

As a curator, there are certain places that demand a pilgrimage. O'Keeffe's home and studio in Abiquiu is one of "those places". I am very excited that I will be going there in October with contemporary artist Freya R Grand and meeting with members of the curatorial team of the O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe. Thank you to my friend Perry C. III Andrews for blazing a trail to the vast west for me to follow and for Freya, who has created a body of work worthy of such important attention. It is great to share the trail with you as your curator and friend.

Wishing my client a wonderful day in NYC at his private preview, which I set up for this upcoming African American Art auction. Very excited to learn of the Charles White retrospective coming to the MOMA in 2019! Below: "Untitled" by Noah Purifoy, 1966. "Missouri C" a masterful etching by Charles White, 1972 which I acquired for a foundation collection, now also in the MOMA.

This picture was taken in Nicaragua the morning after celebrating the 59th birthday of one of my clients Gregory Barnhill. He was a great investor in start ups and was one of the first people I went to when looking for advice when starting my company. Before Mr. Barnhill passed, he told me how grateful he was for Art Collector's Athenaeum getting his collection in order and digitizing it so his estate was more manageable for his family. He and his wife asked me to help them celebrate his life as their guest on this extraordinary trip and many of his guests did not know he was dying. He was the first person up every morning.

Rest in Peace Sir...there should be more like Kofi Annan in this world..not less. I had the honor of meeting him at an art exhibition I curated and installed at the UN. He was so gracious and elegant. He walked up to me smiling as I was dusting off sculptures. I had no idea who he was, even after he told me his name...he did not wield his position, but I knew he was a good man with a kind face, who enjoyed art.

A delightful film! In 2019, the Art Collector's Athenaeum will be photo credited in a book about the work of Ludwig Bemelmans published by Thames and Hudson. The late Anthony Bourdain states in the film that The Carlyle "is the only place you can see the work of Ludwig Bemelmans", which is not correct. The Ocean House, a truly grande hotel in Watch Hill RI has an extensive Bemelmans collection which we have had the pleasure of cataloguing and it includes his marvelous Paris murals and murals from the yacht owned by Aristotle Onasis.

As a curator, it is particularly satisfying to help works of art find the ideal person to steward them and the ideal place to be. Last night, we installed four new abstract works by Mark Hatfield in a collection alongside the work of Joan Miro, Dale Chihuly and a fine collection of Japanese Woodblock Prints. You could almost hear the "click" when they were put into place and the collector exclained, "It like they have always been with me!"

The light in the European sculpture court at the Met was fantastic yesterday. Marble must have natural light! Now in Stockbridge, Massachusetts where Daniel Chester French constructed a railroad track from inside his studio to an open field outside where he could easily push his monumental works in marble outside to test the forms and shadows in the changing light. Marble lives in the light!

A great visit yesterday to Olana, the estate of Frederic Church for a private tour with Architect Marlene Shade and members of the outstanding Education staff of The Olana Partnership. We discussed my upcoming lecture this fall for Olana's top donors and another potential lecture on the arc of the history of landscape painting. It was a pleasure to escort Marlene to the Catskills and give her a tour of a historical archive project we have worked on in order to inspire her. These creative collaboations are so gratifying.

When a collection needs appraisal, it is important to know how to select the right appraisers. Many collections require a team, as opposed to a "one size fits all" approach. Art Collector's Athenaeum can create the right team for your collection with scholarship and expertise to help collector's realize the best results.

Art Collector's Athenaeum is pleased to announce that we have solved a mystery and restored a work of art exactly 125 years from the day it was created. An original study in pencil by James Carroll Beckwith for his ceiling mural for the Chicago World's Fair. Applied to the wooden staircase of a historical home by the artist in 1892. The drawing was almost entirely lost due to acidification and damaging application of household varnish. After hours of research at five art archives, the original reference was located at the Cooper Hewitt and with the help of our conservator and artistisans, the drawing is now restored!
