When crews arrived in the 100 block of Sara Lane, they were advised that the family's bearded dragon was still in the basement. Captain Spickler and Firefighter Startzel from Truck 79 conducted the search and made the grab. The victim was rushed to awaiting EMS crews from Ambulance 52, who stabilized the patient in preparation for transport to a local veterinarian for further evaluation. Great job to all that were involved!
One of our customer's children expressed concern about this problem, so we figured out a solution. It should work with all brands of alarm systems.
The 2018 National Retail Security Survey shows that employee theft accounted for over 16.1 billion dollars in lost revenue for US retailers last year. The good news is that advanced technologies like video surveillance can cause a significant drop in losses.
Future owner of Keystone Alarm? Kevin & Anita's newest grandson!
Just want to say “Thank You” to our employees. For the first time in over 20 years Kevin and I were both out of commission for quite a few days (flu) and we are so grateful to Jim, Sharyn, Randy & Brian for stepping in and taking care of everything. We are really blessed to work with such a great group of people!
We're proud to protect the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing near York Springs. (This is an incredible place to visit, even if you're not really into racing, with tons of memorabilia! They're open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and admission is FREE! )

Thinking about getting security cameras for your home? Do you have realistic expectations about what a system can do for you? Contact us at [email protected] for our free "Insider's Guide to Residential Cameras" (No salesperson will contact you, unless you request us to.)
Is this how you feel about your smoke detectors? Maybe it's time to upgrade. If your detector is older than 7 years it's starting to become less effective AND more prone to false alarms. If it's older than 10 years you need to replace it NOW to keep your family and property protected.
We have had customers ask us to install cameras with audio recording...and this is why we won't do it! It's important to know what you can and can't legally do - just one more reason to get a quality professional installation from Keystone Alarm.
HAMILTON TOWNSHIP -- Winery owners in Monroe County have been arrested on wiretapping charges.
We took advantage of the warmer weather to install outdoor cameras on a customer's pole building. Here's Brian running wire. (We like hard wired cameras for better pictures, less interference and greater equipment longevity...plus, they won't slow down your network!)

The vehicles were all parked unlocked on the residents’ property overnight. The vehicle was entered by an unidentified person(s). A small amount of money was taken in each incident except the theft from 700 Road, which a car battery was taken. No one in the area reported suspicious activity. Other valuables were left in the vehicle.

Thinking about cameras for your business? Just beware of a new offering from your cable company. We received an ad in the mail offering a "free" HD camera - with just a $29.95 per month fee and additional cameras @ $19.95 per month. The ad does not mention that they provide recording or playback, and also says that they can change pricing or service at any time! Let's take a moment to compare;
Cable company offer - including 4 cameras with view only capability
for 3 years: $3232.80 (if they don't raise their rates...and you will continue to pay $89.89 a month or more for as long as you have the cameras)
Keystone Alarm offer - including 4 cameras and DVR with remote view, recording, search & playback. $2500.00 (No monthly fee for the life of your system!)
Why pay so much more when you can have a much better system installed by professional CCTV technicians?
This is a good reason to backup your locks with an alarm system!
Lock bumping is a technique that thieves can use to get into your home. Learn about it and how you can help keep burglars out.
We are experiencing phone problems at our office due to Comcast's NATIONWIDE phone outage. If you need service you can reach us at (717) 632-9961. The Central Station's phone service is unaffected, however, please be aware that if your business alarm communicates via your Comcast phone line you may experience a problem with alarm signals reaching the Central Station. Gotta love Comcast!
A friend sent over this photo of a do-it-yourself security system. (would also make a great April Fool's Prank!)
To everyone who's been asking about Armani's surgery, he's doing great, but he's been wearing a company t-shirt the last two days to protect his incision. He's back to work if you want to stop in at the office to say hi!
If you read Susquehanna Style Magazine be sure to check out the article on Home Safety in the March Issue - we got a nice mention in the article!
HOME SECURITY YOU CAN GROW - this weekend we were trimming bushes at our house, and it brought to mind a great home security tip. Customers frequently tell me they're worried about intruders getting in through windows. We can make window contacts part of your alarm system, but you can grow your own deterrent. Plant large thorny bushes beneath your windows (holly works especially well). Most burglars won't want to get all torn up before they even reach your window, and they'll move on to an easier target.
HELP PREVENT A HOME INVASION. ALWAYS ANSWER YOUR DOOR! Crime statistics prove that many break- ins begin with a knock at the door. When no one responds, the burglars assume the coast is clear to enter your house. So ALWAYS respond to a knock. You shouldn't open a door to a stranger. Just yell through the door that "we're" busy (makes it sound like you're not alone) , or simply make noise inside so it's obvious someone is there. The last thing you want is to be confronted in your home by a burglar!
The 2G Sunset is coming to Pennsylvania. Back in 2012 AT&T announced that they were shutting down it's 2G network by the end of 2016, beginning in NYC and slowly spreading into other areas of the country. We have it on good authority that our network here in Central PA is slated to go down in the next week or two. What does this mean for you? Well, if you have an old 2G cell phone, it's going to stop working. And if you're one of our customers who hasn't yet switched your alarm cell communicator to the new 4G version, your alarm system is soon going to give you a Communication Failure message. We've been making calls and sending letters, but if you're one of the dozen or so customers who have not gotten back to us yet, time is running out to avoid disruption of your service! (If your cell communicator is less than 4 years old, or if your system communicates via a phone line then you'll have no worries!)
What's wrong with this door? The hinges are on the outside, so even if the door is locked a burglar can open the door by popping out the hinge pins! We run into this pretty frequently when we're installing alarm systems (apparently there is a dyslexic door installer running around Central PA) There are two solutions: move your hinges, or if you have a wooden door and frame, you can hammer a nail partly into the hinge side of the door frame, and drill a hole in the door for the nailhead to slot into when the door is closed. A cheap fix! (Call us at 632-9961 if you need instructions).
Be safe & check your outside doors today!
One of our customers contacted us this week to report that their car had been broken into while they were on vacation, and their home alarm system remote control was among the items stolen. If your remote is lost or stolen be sure to contact us immediately! We can remove the remote from your system programming with a few keystrokes, and prevent a thief from disarming your system. And as a precaution, NEVER leave your alarm remote control in your car!
When you leave on vacation, try to arrange to have a friend or neighbor keep an eye on your house, and be sure to let your alarm company know who you want us to call in event of an alarm while you're gone! We can also help you set up temporary passcodes and passwords for house sitters.
Important news for our alarm customers! We've completed our system upgrades and as of today you can have access to your very own alarm system website where you can check your alarm history, contact phone numbers, user list and zone list. And it's FREE for new or existing customers!! Call us today and we'll give you your access codes so you can begin using this new feature at no charge.
Just a warning to our neighbors in Hanover Borough. Recently there have been at least 3 fires deemed arson in our area. Please keep an eye out for any suspicious activity! (And if you haven't paid any attention to your smoke detectors lately, this might be a good time to check them out! Remember that ALL smokes lose their effectiveness after 10 years and should be replaced)
As spring arrives we are hearing about a lot of thefts from backyard sheds (when you're mowing with that brand new John Deere someone may be watching!). It's a good idea to keep sheds padlocked, and if you have a wireless alarm system you can even add an outdoor door contact on most sheds.
