Many #founders, #owners, and #entrepreneurs created successful companies by becoming their company’s top #salesperson.

While this creates tremendous initial success, owners often find themselves trapped in the role for too long.

It becomes difficult to replace yourself because you keep:

✅ hiring the wrong salespeople who look good on paper

✅ setting the wrong expectations with little accountability

✅ giving your salespeople your best accounts to "grow"

Most founder-led sales organizations flounder because the owner is focused on #selling instead of #leading and #managing their #salespeople's success.

Too many #businessowners end up losing hope and giving up on their dream of creating a #company that truly impacts their industry and their life. They give up on their dreams of #freedom and #wealthbuilding and a fruitful #exit.

It doesn't have to be this way.

There are plenty of excellent salespeople on the market. 🏆

But you have to know:

🥇 What #skills you need them to have

🥇 How to #attract more of the right candidates

🥇 How to guard against hiring the wrong candidates

🥇 How to select the ideal hire

🥇 And how to get them producing #sales #revenue quickly

Most #businessowners want to create valuable companies and a great life through their #business.

But many suffer under the misguided belief that poor performance is simply something they have to live with.

Most of the #CEOs I work with want things to be different.

The problem is that they've subscribed to a delusional belief system that tells them things won't change.

This causes them to waste time.

They try to make sense of inaccurate sales forecasts.

They continue to have the same upsetting conversations with their #managers and #salespeople who keep getting the same mediocre results.

And they keep justifying the mediocrity by reinforcing a belief system that tells them that this is simply how it is.

You don't have to be Einstein to understand just how insane that is.

And what's even harder is -- deep down -- you know that there's a better way.

You know that suffering under "it is what it is" means you've given up.

Most of the great #leaders I know are not quitters. So you keep accepting what is while thoughts of failing slowly eat away at you.

This cycle creates a great deal of stress.

I'm here to tell you that you can have a business that works for you.

The first step is getting accurate data on what's holding you back.

Get the #data you need. 👇👇👇👇

Transforming a #sales force starts with the #leader, so getting #salesleadership right is critical. It begins with getting top leadership aligned around a set of core principles, creating alignment around #execution, and #hiring sales #managers and sales leaders that can and will create massive forward motion through their teams. The ultimate #goal is to displace the competition with value, win market share, and add profitable #revenuegrowth.

Sales leadership impacts other areas of your company, too. Sales #performance, #margins, and #profitability lags under poor leadership. #Recruiting and developing effective sales leaders is essential to a high achieving sales force.

Done right, these overachieving sales leaders will bring about new levels of performance from your salespeople. If done wrong, you'll have the same mediocrity, complacent, and lackluster performance you've come to expect.

I hear #CEOs and #businessowners talking about hiring #Aplayers all the time and then complaining that their team isn’t performing as well as they should be. What’s going on?

If you’re interested in knowing how to finally get it right, I'm offering a VIP masterclass in September to a group of CEOs and owners about sales leadership. If you'd like an invitation, let me know in the comments.

As a successful #entrepreneur, #CEO, or #founder, you're capable of creating #results. But happens if you have to be away from your #business for an extended period of time?

Would your #employees know what to do without your constant oversight?

Are there #leaders who will do what must be done, decide what must be decided, and execute what must be executed?

Most #owners haven’t done the work to ensure their company could survive and thrive without them at the helm day after day.

Most are stuck pushing on the flywheel, and that’s the reason their companies never grow beyond their inputs.

Yesterday I wrote about giving employees a stake in the outcomes by being transparent about your goals and allowing your people to benefit financially when you succeed.

Here’s tip number two.

2. Get Them To Walk In Your Shoes

If you’re not comfortable opening the books, consider a simple management technique where you respond to every question your employees bring you with the same answer, “If you owned the company, what would you do?” By forcing your employees to walk in your shoes, you get them thinking about their question as you would and it builds the habit of starting to think like an owner. Pretty soon, employees are able to solve their own problems.

How are you creating freedom?

Some #entrepreneurs focus on #profits, while others lock in on #sales #goals. Successful #CEOs have a primary goal of owning a #business that thrives and grows without them.

In today's tough economy, many #businessowners are doing more of the #sales, #production, #marketing, or #operational jobs they had when they started their #business.

In a #crisiseconomy it can be a challenge to take the time to #rethink and #respond in a proactive way that creates a better #companyculture, increases #impact, and creates #freedom, and #wealth for the owner.

A crisis is the best time to do a deep dive and discover what's really possible because of this pandemic, not despite it.

The way you set up and run your business determines how #predictable your #revenue is, how reliable your #cashflow is, and how much freedom you have to live your dream life.

Here is the first of five ways to set up your business so that it can #succeed without you.

1. Give Them A Stake In The Outcome

Jack Stack, author of The Great Game of Business and A Stake In The Outcome wrote the book on creating an #ownershipculture: you are transparent about your financial results and you allow employees to participate in your financial success. This results in employees who act like owners when you’re not around.

Why did you become a #businessowner?

If you’re like most #entrepreneurs, you want the #freedom that comes from owning your own business:

The desire for freedom often leads #owners to drive toward creating a bigger business, rather than a better, more valuable #company.

Unfortunately, most owners who strive for more #revenue or #profit as their primary goal often have less time, less freedom, and less money because it all goes into growing the business.

Simply focusing on growing a larger business can get you further from your ultimate goal of freedom and can leave you cash-strapped and time-strapped as you work a grueling schedule.

Instead of pushing harder and faster, there’s an alternative that may get you closer to what you want. Think of your running your business as you would think of raising a child, and your role is to guide it into becoming an independent, thriving #enterprise.

By focusing on the role of #founder rather driver/doer, you create the possibility for your business to be more than the sum of your will and efforts.

The demands on your time lessen as your employees pick up more of the load, you'll #sell more and #produce more #revenue as you build a #team of #salespeople rather than relying only on yourself or a “unicorn” to drive the top line.

These days many #businessowners and #CEOs are feeling the crunch of an #economy in #crisis. Many are stretched to the limit, taking on more of the #sales, #production, #marketing, or #operational burden they ran when they started or took over the #business.

With fewer #resources and #customers, it can be tempting to fall into scarcity thinking and reactivity rather than take the time to rethink and respond in a proactive way that lays the foundation for a better #companyculture, more #impact, #freedom, and #wealth.

A crisis can be the very best time to do a deep dive and discover exactly what's possible as a result of this pandemic, not despite it.

And a business that's not dependent on its owner is the ultimate #asset to own.

It allows you complete control over your time so that you can choose your projects and plan your vacations.

And when it comes to #exitingyourbusiness, a company independent of its owner is worth a lot more than an owner dependent company.

The way you set up and run your business will determine how predictable your revenue is, how reliable your cash flow is, how competitive your products are, how effective your #leaders are, and how valuable your company is to you without being overly reliant on you.

What would you do with extra time and money?

#Entrepreneurs and #businessowners can add #value to their #companies by reducing the company's over-reliance on the #owner.

The way you approach #leading your #company determines how fast you #grow a valuable enterprise that fulfills its mission and creates #freedom and #wealth for you.

Today is day eight of at least eight ways to know if you have a job or a company.

8. If the majority of your customers call you personally when they need to engage with your company, it’s likely you have a job, not a company.

I have met too many owners who inadvertently prevent #growth because they are at the center. Many have the unconscious belief that nobody else can do (fill in the blank) as well as they do. That belief creates their reality.

Build the foundation of your company and #hire #leaders who have the #skills, #DNA, #desire, and #commitment to serve your customers.

Create a #culture of service and #performance through #hiring and #development. If you #hire well, you'll find that they ultimately do things better. That’s a good thing!

Great people make a great company. Let your business grow up and grow beyond you.

Become the #CEO and run your business like a #Fortune500 company and watch it flourish.

As a #businessowner, #CEO, or #President, there are at least 8 ways to know if you own a valuable business or if you simply own a great #job.

The ultimate test of the #businessvalue is knowing whether someone (including yourself) would pay real money to buy your company.

Here is the seventh of eight ways to know if you are building a company, and not just doing a job:

7. In a job, you solve the problems. If you own a company, your #employees solve the problems.

If your business works because you are a great problem solver or driver of revenue, you likely have a job. It may be a good-paying job, but the minute you stop doing it, the #business grinds to a halt.

If you're the primary #manager or #leader in your company, you're the one stuck solving all of the problems.

If you're the Problem Solver in Chief, it's time to begin working on creating a foundation and structure for your business to start working for you and not the other way around.

If you’re ready to know where you are relative to your true potential, it’s time to #evaluate. You can find out more in the comments below.

Today is day 6 of at least 8 ways to know if you own a #business or if you own your #job.

I remember a time when the harder I worked the farther behind I fell.

Taking time to work on my #business seemed like a fantasy.

Time away always cost me #money because if I wasn’t working neither was my business.

Sure, there were people on the payroll. But there was nobody who could do the work that led to #growth better than me.

Nobody to earn enough new revenue.

Nobody to generate enough new leads.

Nobody to nurture new leads.

Nobody to facilitate new sales.

Nobody to grow accounts.

Nobody to manage production or employees.

6. In a job, the harder you work, the more money you earn. In a company, the smarter you work, the more money you earn.

There are three things in my business that enable me to take time off take time to work “on” my business. These are the same things we help #CEOs, #presidents, and business #owners implement:

#Strategy - take a hard look at your company, your vision, and what gives you a competitive advantage while reducing reliance on you.

#Systems – internal processes, automation, and defined systems enable better #communication and #execution.

#Staff – a team of people able and willing to find, sell, and serve your customers.

Council Post: Nine Considerations For Business Owners Contemplating Franchising

Buying into a well-respected franchise can save you time and money on the path to business ownership. However, there are some downsides to franchising that entrepreneurs may overlook in their haste to get up and running.

Today is day 5 of at least 8 ways to know if you own a #business or if you own your #job.

Most #entrepreneurs have a vision of #freedom but many #businessowners wind up being owned by their #business.

Owning a #company means building an asset someone (including you) would spend money to buy. Otherwise, you have a #job, not a business.

Here's the fifth of eight ways to ensure you are building a valuable #company.

5. In a job, you get fired for taking too much vacation, whereas if you own a company, the more vacation you can take without impacting your company’s #performance, the more valuable your business is.

If you struggle with taking a few well-earned vacations each year, your business may own you.

Many owners become trapped in the grind of their businesses - the very same business they created to realize personal #wealth and #freedom.

Right now is the very best time to rebuild the foundation of your business and begin working to get you out of the center of it.

What kind of #company do you really want to create on your way to #freedom?

And when the pandemic is over and we're free to travel anytime we want, where do you want to go for vacation?

I'll start - I'm planning a trip to Europe with my family and then a trip to Bali to finish my book series.

Have a great weekend! ~ Cheryl

Today is day 4 of at least 8 ways to know if you own a #business or if you own your #job.

Most #entrepreneurs have a vision of #freedom but end up working a lot harder for a lot less as #businessowners.

To be an owner of a #company means you're building an asset someone (including you) would buy. Without this, you have a #job, not a business.

Here's the fourth of eight ways to ensure you are building a valuable #company.

4. In a job, you use your personal experience and expertise to get a result, whereas your company is a place where a process – not a person – consistently produces a desirable result.

If you're the “go-to expert” in your business you may be owned by your job. Most entrepreneurs love what they do and they derive their identity needs from doing it so well they become known for it.

But this can become a double-edged sword when all of a sudden you can’t replicate yourself.

Many owners become trapped in their businesses - the very same business they created to realize personal #wealth and #freedom.

Build a core set of #processes that you can teach to others in your company so you can begin to work on your #business and stop being owned by it.

Today is day 3 of at least 8 ways to know if you own a #business or if you simply own your job.

Most business #owners started their companies to break free of the 9-5 grind but end up working a lot harder for a lot less as an #owner, #CEO or #president - - until they learn how to understand and leverage the key drivers of #growth, #scale, and #value.

Once you have that #growthroadmap, you can create a firm foundation and build an asset that scales without having to be at the center of it all.

Whether you never intend to #sell, want to sell in the next couple of years, or decide to run your business for decades to come, you must know that you are building an asset someone (including you) would buy – otherwise, you have a #job, not a business.

Here is the third of eight ways to ensure you are building a valuable #company and not just doing a job.

3. In a job, your personal reputation impacts your #results, but as a company, the #brand is more important than the personality of the founder(s).

In other words, a company has a life and a value to customers and stakeholders that goes beyond you as its owner.

Are you sure you're building something bigger than you?

Let's find out #together. Click the link in the comments to learn more.
