This is a painful time for our country and our world. We recently witnessed the senseless death of George Floyd, which came on the heels of other recent events where we saw more hatred and violence against our fellow citizens.
What has already been a challenging time due to the global pandemic, has given way to even more concerns and emotions. Many of us are frightened, sad, angered and bewildered by the hatred unfolding across our country.
While we will not condone violent and destructive action of any kind, NC REALTORS® does stand in support of the messages brought forth in our communities. Our neighbors where we work and live across North Carolina deserve respect and should feel safe and free from discrimination.
NC REALTORS® are advocates for private property rights and homeownership for all, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity. It is clearly stated in the REALTOR® Code of Ethics that each of our 48,000 plus members vows to abide by in their work each day.
It is through this Code that we recognize the need for more conversations on these topics to occur in every community from Murphy to Manteo. We will continue to work with elected leaders to enact meaningful solutions to help our state move forward. Without productive, forward-looking engagement of all persons, we won’t come out of this painful time in our state and nation better.
Racism has no home in North Carolina.
