Ok so I get a lot of people asking me what product they can buy to help fight thrush. It’s been my experience these two products work the best. Koppertox runs about 33$ and the thrush relief runs about 24$ and they are 100% the same ingredients, either one will do the job. Don’t waste money on these other products that promise it will kill thrush and sorry folks, bleach water isn’t strong enough to kill it. You can help to prevent it by thoroughly cleaning your horses hooves regularly and you can spray bleach in the hoof if you like but if your horse had chronic thrush or even a little thrush these two products work the best. You have to be diligent though. Once a week is wasting time and money. It must be done everyday. Also if he’s a chronic thrusher he needs to be kept on a dry lot or in a stall until he’s relieved of the thrush. If y’all have any question feel free to message me!

Here’s some before and after on a trim I did yesterday. The hoof was severely flared in the toe and busted up real bad.

Daily hoof tip!

Many of us ride multiple times a week and probably have been taught this at an early age but some of us who are new to horses and just starting out may not be aware of how important it is to clean a hoof before and after every ride. And here’s why:
Rocks or sticks can easily get stuck inside the hoof cavity while your horse is out to pasture and these little bits of debris can cause soreness and even sometimes abscess in the hoof. If you make a good routine of cleaning your horses hooves before each ride you’ll know there’s nothing in there to create an issue. We also want to make sure and clean the hoof after each ride for the same reason. During a ride a horse can pick up a rock if you ride across gravel or small sticks out in the field. If you do find that your horse is sore and not sure why contact your local vet or farrier immediately. If an abscess is caught early it can be drained and medicated to relieve soreness.

That’s your daily hoof tip!
Ride on y’all!

Hoof tip of the day.

With all this rain comes thrush, everyone who owns a horse should know how to deal with thrush. If your wondering what this is, or asking how do I know if my horse has it, it’s pretty simple. Pick up a foot on you horse and clean the muck out. If you can smell a terrible foul odor or you can see a black tar substance it’s most likely thrush. Here’s some helpful tips on how to handle it.

1. Clean your horses feet regularly. This doesn’t have to be everyday but the more often you do the less thrush you will have and you’ll find that it becomes easier to pick up you horses feet when you get into a good routine.

2. Make sure they have a good dry area to stand in. If they’re pin or stall is always mucky and never cleaned this will cause bad thrush issues.

3. Get a product to fight the thrush.
We like to use koppertox or the generic version called thrush relief.
There’s about 20 different products claiming they will kill off the thrush when you go to your local feed store or tractor supply. Most of them don’t work and are a waste of money.
